Process I follow: 

1. Take Backup.
2. Analyse problem and the cause of it.
3. Research why it happened and give details to you about it.
4. Ask you if the problem fixing involves major or even minor change in structure of your website.
5. Repair your WordPress Website making sure it won't have any other side-effects.
